Historic Districts

West Palm Beach offers a wealth of stunning historical areas. In the city there are 16 locally-designated historic districts each with their own distinct character; nine of which have earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.  Districts include the Bel Air Historic District, the Central Park Historic District, Old Northwood Historic District; all of which are either associated with the development initiated by Henry Flager or the Florida real estate boom of 1920’s. 

The Downtown area of West Palm Beach experienced resurgence as an entertainment and shopping district since the 1990s due to the development of CityPlace and the preservation of 1920s architecture in the city such as Northwood Village, Flamingo Park and El Cid.
